Sometimes my kids aren’t very funny at all

5 Feb

pACEBW-1126408dtSeems like lately, we’ve been going through a not-so-funny period at what is usually The Fun House. Between arguing about whether driving is a right or a privilege with our son and arguing about how much duct tape is too much with our daughter, I’d say things are decidedly downbeat. Today, I find myself trying to find the humor in a hole the size of a ten-year-old’s heel in the staircase wall. It’s not coming. Note to new parents, you think you will escape the horrors of preteen and teen parenting. I laugh at you. All I can say is have plenty of wine on hand, and a tub of spackle.

How’s your day going?

More than a few of my friends learned hw to repair drywall in my parent’s house. I am not certain that my mom didn’t go back and do it again… but we made a hole, we fixed it. I only made the one. 🙂

My son has patched two holes already. And he’s learned how to reattach part of the framing on his door.

Ha. I forgot about repairing the door framing. It’s a wonder any of us survive those years, kids or parents.

Good grief, what are you doing to her with duct tape!! Just kidding. I hear you. Parenting is NOT for the weak of heart. And by that, I mean it’s just dang hard.

When you say you’re arguing about how much duct tape is too much with your daughter, does that mean you’re arguing with her about the appropriate amount of duct tape, or are you trying to figure out how much duct tape to use ON her???

I should have used duct tape on her this morning! But, no, the duct tape is being used to create “Duck Tape Glamour,” my daughter’s very own brand of wallets, coin purses and hair bows made of duct tape.

Forget What to Expect When You’re Expecting. It would be far more beneficial for someone to draft What to Expect When You Least Expect It: The Teen Years. I believe they all stumble around temporarily insane in a cloud of hormones and body spray. Cheers!

I think I have a new project! Thanks! And, boy, the Axe body spray?! The worst.

Yuck. I fear for the upcoming years. I think I may already be getting an appetizer for the main course right now. Feel free to laugh your arse off at me then.

Spackle, yes lots of spackle. When I was a teenager, I put a hole in my bedroom wall. Patiently, my dad taught me how to repair it. When I broke my bedroom door, my mom removed it from the hinges. When I broke numerous hairbrushes at the sink (don’t ask, I really don’t know either) I went out and had to buy more.

As an adult, I’m a million times more patient. I also know how to spackle holes in walls (I taught a few other kids on my floor during college). Taking off and putting on doors? I have no idea.

Just remember, it won’t always be the way it is now. And good luck in the interim.
