My kids say funny stuff, too 2
featuring my son, 16 years old My son is now at the age where he leaves for hours at a time to meet up with friends and do constructive things like drive from mall to mall visiting their favorite stores. I say visiting because, between them, they have almost enough money to get a fast […]

Head of the Class
Not too long ago, in my newspaper column, I wrote about my son’s friends being given cars by their parents. I had heard that kids with cars—and I don’t mean Power Wheels—was pretty common here, but didn’t really believe it until one newly minted driver after another was given a car. And we’re not talking […]

Is Gun Control a Hopeless Case?
I thought about not posting today. Not just not writing. No guest post; no re-blog. No “I’m taking a vacation, see you next week.” Nothing. See, I spent the week wondering what I would write about the Aurora shooting. It seemed I really should write something about the Aurora shooting. It’s a tragedy and not […]

Screw Waldo! Where’s Dad?
This week, I begin experimenting with my Monday post. I had been posting a link to my Naperville Patch column. In a sign of the times, the Patch is no longer carrying opinion pieces written by people with, you know, opinions. Said people like to be paid. Said news source figures they can get people […]

Check it out! I guest blogged!
Ordinarily, I eschew exclamation points in my writing but, golly gee, someone asked me to write for his blog and I did it! You can check out a bit of my experience parenting my son through one of the darkest times of both of our lives here: http://blackboxwarnings.wordpress.com/2012/06/28/a-tale-of-two-meds-and-one-teen/ Read the other posts, too. Wow, you have a very powerful style of expressing yourself! I read you because you were freshly pressed, congratulations on that and your post on gratitude!!
Hi JMLindy,
I just saw that you subscribed to my blog – what a nice surprise. I hope you enjoy it and I look forward to seeing your comments and suggestions.
Looks like you have a very nice blog. I enjoyed your writing style in the posts that I scanned through so far, and of course your FP one was a gem.
Thanks for stopping by.
Huffygirl
How’s the “making sense of life” mission working out for you?
Some days make more sense than others. Today, for instance, was completely up for grabs. From Freshly Pressed to doggie emergency but we got it all handled.
I’m glad to find you through Fressed Pressed, also! You have a wonderful writing style and I’m happy to make your cyber acquaintance!
oops–meant Fresh Pressed!
I feel pretty fressed, though! Glad to make your acquaintance, too.
Likewise!
I want to start by saying . . . if you’d rather not participate, I totally understand. I have declined in the past myself. It is kind of a pain in the arse. That said.
I’m awarding you the Versatile Blogger Award because I like your blog and think others will too. As with everything in life, there are strings attached. 1) You are to give the award to 15 other bloggers you feel are deserving and notify them of the award. 2) Make a post thanking the person that gave you the award (moi’) and listing your 15 choices. Provide links to these 16 blogs in your post. 3) Lastly, in your post, list seven things the bloggy world doesn’t know about you.
I dont know how to link the graphic for your blog. Maybe you can save it from mine? Or tell me how to link it haha
Personally, I had trouble with it, so feel free to contact me if you need help.
The bottom line . . . whether you participate or not . . . I think you have a rockin’ blog.
Thank you! I will try to find 15 blogs I like. It’s not that there aren’t 15, it’s just that I don’t have tons of time to read. I need to rectify that so will use this as an opportunity. Thanks!
I love this! So much that I nominated you for a Liebster Blog award. It’s meant for blogs with less than 200 followers that a fellow blogger feels deserves more attention. I definitely feel you deserve more attention!
The rules are simple: 1. Thank the person who nominated you, and link back to their blog.
2. Nominate and link to five other blogs that each have less than 200 followers but that you think deserve more. 3. Spread the Liebster Blog love Karma!
So simple, and a quick way to make someone’s day!
Don’t forget to post the Liebster Blog badge in your post and on your page. You can copyit from my page it from my page.

Hello! Just wanted to say how much I enjoy your blog. I don’t know how to nominate someone for an award, but I would if I could ‘cos you’re that good. I did, however, place you on my lists of blog I love on my own blog. Hope you don’t mind. Have a happy new year!
Just stopping by to say thanks for the follow! I always love your posts, so it’s nice to know that you liked mine too
You’re welcome and thanks back at you.
Just found you via Le Clown’s BBW site and after reading a few of your posts I’m really looking forward to your guest post there. I just read your Dark Side of the Mom post and it’s timely because our kiddo (7) is away at a friend’s cottage and its bliss to have 24 hrs to be an adult and not a parent again!
Thank you, dinnerversions. I took a peak at your FOS and it looks terrific. Too bad it’s about 98 degrees here right now ’cause, you know, hot! I’m looking forward to writing for Black Box Warning. 24 hours without children is SUCH a tease.Enjoy!
I’ve nominated you for the One Lovely Blog Award! Thank you for your great work!
Snide,
Holy crap! Your avatar… Is it a Mantella? I can’t see it well…. Are you in the hobby? I’ll just wait for your answer before getting all giddy…
Le Clown
Well, it may be a mantella. I thought it was just a plastic frog sitting on my daughter’s kiddy pool, looking all aesthetically pleasing and photographable. But now that you’ve opened my eyes to the world of poisonous frogs, I may need to start collecting them. Seems poisonous frogs would come in handy now and then.
Snide,
This was me thinking you were a fellow frog hobbyist! Oh well, the plastic kind are also splendid!
Le Clown
hmmm I was sure I was following you and then WP was telling me I wasn’t. Does WP unfollow people randomly like Twitter does?
I don’t think they do, but I see that you re-subscribed. Thanks!
yeah, I didn’t think they did. Odd
Oh I am so glad you visited my blog so I knew about yours! My laugh meter is filling up as I browse your posts between guffaws!!
Humor has been such an important part of my journey, and I believe you my dear will be a welcome addition to it!!
Well, thanks so much! I’m not always hilarious, but I do agree that humor is tremendously important. Glad to be part of your journey.
I guess I picked the right ones for laughter today, then!
Well, you can’t always be funny…but I’m guessing your more serious posts will touch me just as much. Thanks,
I nominated you for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award for your lovely blog. For more info, you can check out the festivities over here: http://writersite.org/2012/12/08/from-the-cat-choir/
Luanne
Janice, I have nominated you for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. I hope you’ll accept the nomination.
HI JLwrite – just stopped by to thank you for the follow, and saw my 2011 comment of the same ilk. So, thanks again, and sorry about the other two fish.
Huffygirl
Hi, again. Glad to hear from you. I am not really sorry about the fish and, since I crossed out the two fish, we’ve lost the last. It was really kind of morbid how we’d get up every morning and say, “Well, the immortal fish is still there.” He proved himself to be mortal, almost two years after his tank mates bit the seaweed.
You’re welcome. And I apologize for the typos in my comment on your post. I will now blame my meds, which have dissolved my brain.
